Practices immigration law - with emphasis on family-based petitions, employment-based immigrant and non-immigrant visas, immigration compliance, ICE inspections of employers, I-9 forms and E-Verify, and employer-side employment/labor law (FLSA, FMLA, NLRB, etc.).
Mr. Buchanan is the founding partner at Sebelist Buchanan Law PLLC with offices in Nashville and Atlanta, where he represents employers in immigration law with a special emphasis on employer immigration compliance, ICE inspections/audits, and individuals on family-based petitions, naturalization, asylum and U visas. He is also of Counsel to Siskind Susser for employer immigration matters.
Mr. Buchanan received his law degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1982 and served as senior trial specialist for the National Labor Relations Board for 20 years. Mr. Buchanan also served for 12 years as Adjunct Professor at William H.Bowen UALR School of Law. He entered private practice in 2003 and formed his own law firm in 2016.
Mr. Buchanan is passionate about representing clients on I-9 compliance issues, such as ICE inspections and internal I-9 audits. He is the co-author of the book, I-9 and E-Verify Handbook, authors his own blog on employer immigration compliance located at www.employerimmigration.com and is a contributor to HR Professional Magazine. His twitter handle is @buchananvisalaw. Mr. Buchanan is a frequent speaker on employer immigration compliance at conferences for SHRM, American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and Tennessee Bar Association (TBA).
Mr. Buchanan is also the long-time editor of the TBA's Immigration Law Section and Labor & Employment Law newsletters as well as the 11th Circuit newsletter, issued by several AILA chapters. He is admitted to practice in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Arkansas, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and D.C. Circuit.
Mr. Buchanan is active in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for Be About Change, United Cerebral Palsy of Middle Tennessee, and TBA's Immigration Law Section. He is a member of The Village - UMC, AGC - Middle Tennessee Branch, and AILA's Board of Publication.
Jennifer (Jenny) Pippin has been with Sebelist Buchanan since the beginning in 2015. She is a Bilingual Paralegal. (English - Spanish) She works with immigrant and non-immigrant clients, as well as assisting with I-9 compliance. She especially enjoys working with Consular Processing, Asylum and Naturalization. Previously, Jenny worked in the Nashville office of Siskind Susser (Immigration Lawyers), after a career in Hotel Management and Entertainment, where she frequently traveled internationally.
Jenny’s favorite moments are when clients, whose cases she has worked on for years, finally arrive in Nashville!
Jenny holds a BS in English and Humanities from Middle Tennessee State University. She grew up in Argentina and attended elementary school in San Juan and middle school in Buenos Aires. When not at work, Jenny enjoys spending time with friends and family and especially reading and learning about other cultures with emphasis on Spanish and English dialects.
